3 Dad's Walking

Personnel from RAF Marham joined the ‘3 Dads Walking’ this morning to walk part of the way with them as they set off on the next stage of their challenge. Today’s walk saw them set off from Castle Rising, heading towards Litcham, via Sandringham. At Sandringham the estate staff came out to cheer them on and give them bacon sandwiches.

3 Dads stood by a monument with walking poles in hand.

3 Dad’s Walking are Tim, Andy and Mike, 3 suicide bereaved fathers walking in memory of their daughters, Emily, Sophie and Beth.

The 3 dad’s came together in 2021 to undertake their first challenge walking over 300 miles between their home towns in memory of their daughters who all took their own lives. The walk was to raise awareness of talking about suicide and the work of PAPYRUS the Prevention of Young Suicide Charity. The walk was a great success raising in excess of £80000 for the charity but, more importantly, encouraged people to talk openly about suicide and suicide prevention.

In 2022 the 3 dads took on their second challenge by walking between the parliaments of the 4 nations to highlight the fact that suicide is the biggest killer of young people across the UK. Part of this was to also push to make suicide prevention a compulsory part of the school curriculum.

Their latest challenge sees them walking a further 500 miles, from Stirling in Scotland through the eastern counties of England. En route they will visit some of the newly opened or soon-to-open PAPYRUS offices and hubs in Stirling, Newcastle, Leeds and Norwich.

The dads set off from Stirling on 17th April and made their way down the eastern side of the county. On the 10th May they will set off from Litcham in Norfolk to walk to Taverham. Saturday 11th May will see them complete their challenge walking from Taverham to Norwich.
