Adult Education

Education plays an important part of personal development for personnel at RAF Benson, whether Service or civilian.

The Training and Development Flight is situated on the technical site, to the left of Station Headquarters. Service personnel who have identified a course they would like to undertake can contact the Training and Development Flight personnel for information on assistance with their learning as well as accreditation of courses. Self help is recommended in the first instance as staff at the Training and Development Flight have limited resources with which to assist personnel identify a course, although once identified it is simple to gain assistance for a particular course of education. For more information on courses, learning credits and accreditation, please see the RAF Learning Forces website.

For Service personnel who are towards the end of their RAF careers, resettlement is an integral part of their final months. Those who have been identified as nearing the end of their careers will be invited to attend a mandatory initial resettlement brief held on the Station. This will arm them with all the information they require on gaining access to training courses and qualifications to assist with settling into civilian life after leaving the RAF. For more information on Resettlement please see the RAF Learning Forces website.

There are also sometimes opportunities for dependants to undertake courses run by, or in conjunction with, the Training and Development Flight. In addition, the flight often arrange for external education organisations to hold career and education information days on the Station to allow dependants to view the vast range of adult education opportunities that are on offer in the local area.
