Aerial Erector Trade
The Aerial Erector Trade
Royal Air Force TG4 ICT Aerial Erectors are highly skilled and multi talented tradesmen who spend the majority of their working life travelling to a variety of locations throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.
Their ability to climb and work to heights in excess of 100 metres, and the use of knots and ropework developed from old naval rigging techniques, has earned them the well known nickname of "Riggers".
They are in fact experts in many areas of communications, these include the installation, maintenance and recovery of a wide variety of antenna, copper and fibre optic systems.
The trade are also specialists and responsible for the erection, installation, maintenance and recovery of masts, towers, radomes and complex scaffolding structures throughout the MOD.
Approximately thirty percent of the Aerial Erectors are located overseas in Cyprus, Gibraltar and other operational detachments.
It is perhaps a more dynamic occupation than other trades in the RAF. Travel prospects coupled with the increased responsibilities of small crews working away from the unit make it both varied and interesting with a high degree of job satisfaction.
