Audience - To teach airmen and airwomen the skills, procedures and practices of the Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) to a standard where they can work competently and safely as MEWP Operators within TG5 and the trade of Al Erect.

Course Outline - The course covers the following:

Operate and demonstrate the ability to use the MEWP and PPE whilst working on an elevated platform
Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 precautions and Environment Protection
Safe working practices when operating the MEWP.

Operating restrictions of the MEWP in respect to the following:

• Under-slung Lifting
• Positioning
• Climatic Conditions
• Design Limitations

Carry out the following as appropriate to the equipment or vehicle type:

• Pre-use examination
• Daily Inspection

Identify and demonstrate the safety and emergency systems/procedures built into the MEWP
Identify the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be used when working on an elevated platform

At all times students are protected by close monitoring and supervision of experienced Aerial Erector Instructors. Students are continually assessed throughout the course by means of practical assessments and evaluation of their own ability to work at height safely.
