How to post stuff

What better way to show off your squadron, than with images and films of you and your fellow cadets in action? We’ll show you how to create great videos and animated photo slideshows, ready to upload onto the new website.

Once you've made your movie on a camcorder or mobile, post it to YouTube using your own account or the Air Cadet Live account.

When your video’s approved, you can see it live, and will also be able to add comments.

How it works

  • Create a movie
  • Upload your film to YouTube
  • Submit a link to the website
  • Approval

Create a movie

Never made a movie before? No worries, just follow our easy-to-use tips and you’ll be capturing your fellow cadets on film in no time.

Movie making tips

  • Try and keep it between 2 and 4 minutes long
  • Make it informative, exciting and entertaining, think about things that would interest other Cadets
  • Keep the camera or phone as steady and smooth as possible when shooting
  • Try your best to capture the sound clearly
  • Make your own mini documentary or series
  • Show your squadron's skills to the full

What type of content should I create?

  • Videos and image slideshows are the most popular type of content. Here are some suggested themes:
  • Gliding & Flying: Could you film from inside the cockpit?
  • Adventurous training: Show off your skills in the field
  • Shooting: Got any shooting competitions coming up?
  • Sports: Catch that winning goal on film!
  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: What’s it really like?
  • Parade & Drill: Do your drill skills put other squadrons to shame?
  • Music: Make your own band video!

Upload your film to You Tube

How do I add content to the site?

All the videos and photos for the Air Cadet website will be chosen from YouTube. You can upload your video or slide show to either your Squadron/ Wing YouTube channel or the newly created Air Cadets Live YouTube channel.

  • Username - aircadetslive
  • Password - aircadets100

If you have lots of photographs you can make a YouTube movie from these pictures using Picasa, Flickr, Animoto or other slideshow software.

Submit a link to the website

Tell the Air Cadets website you have some content

Once you’ve uploaded your clips onto YouTube, you’ll need to let the site know where you’ve put it, and give some details about your video or slideshow so we can put it in the correct place on our site.

Here’s an example of how to do it:

  • Video URL - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKNQdY3ISPo (Opens in a new window)
  • Squadron – Northwich 146 Squadron
  • Wing - East Cheshire and South Manchester Wing
  • Region - North region

Approval

Before your clips go live on the Air Cadet website, we’ll need to take a look at them and make sure they’re suitable for our audience.

There’s a 3 step approval process

  • Wing approval
  • Air Cadets HQ approval
  • Go-live

Good luck and have fun!
