Poppy joy for Sevenoaks cadets
Topic: News Region: London & South East
Members of 2158 (Sevenoaks) Squadron Air Cadets have been celebrating after raising a huge £13,141.82 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
The huge total was recognised at the Kent Poppy Appeal Awards, with the squadron picking up the award of the Overall Unit trophy. It was the second time in a row the cadets of Sevenoaks had managed to take the trophy home. This year, their total made up over a quarter of the entire amount raised across Kent.
Cadets on the unit collected for the Poppy Appeal over two weeks at multiple locations around Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas under the supervision of the adult staff that run the squadron. The cadets had set themselves a challenge to double their previous year’s total of around £6000.
Pilot Officer Howard Skinner, the Squadron Training Officer and Poppy Appeal officer said: “The cadets were magnificent – over the two weeks of the appeal, they all pitched in to collect for hours, often days at a time, impeccably turned out. They were certainly rewarded by the magnificent total raised. Well done to everyone who participated.”
Throughout Kent, units of the Air Training Corps, Sea Cadet Corps and Army Cadet Force collected approximately £42,000 towards the Royal British Legion’s annual appeal.
