The Galaxy – Morris Cup Presentation & Singing at Wharfedale!
Air Commodore Stewart has been on the road again, but this time his journeys were a little closer to home.
First up was a visit to 1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron where the Commandant joined Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton for the presentation of the coveted Morris Cup.
The Cup was awarded to the Squadron after they were deemed to have produced the top presentation in the quest for the 2009 Lees Trophy.
Following the event Air Commodore Stewart said: "It was a pleasure to accompany our Chief of Air Staff and Lady Anne Dalton to the impressive Morris Cup presentation in Swadlincote.
“The smile on Cadet Sergeant Emily Woolford's face when she received the trophy said it all. This was the best presentation evening I have been to and I was so pleased to see all the hard work pay off. Congratulations to 1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron for a tremendous effort."
Later on in February the Commandant made his way to 1224 (Wharfedale) Squadron's annual award dinner held in Ilkley.
The grand occasion saw over 120 people dining to celebrate the Squadron's success. Air Commodore Stewart joined the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for west Yorkshire, Mr Roger Whittaker for an evening that thoroughly impressed him.
The evening had a twist, as after the formal speeches were complete the Squadron's band entertained the diners with a number of tunes. One of the cadets, Cadet Sergeant Dan Connor, had discovered that the Commandant could sing and invited him up to join the group for a rendition of "Fly me to the Moon".
Air Commodore Stewart said: “1224 (Wharfedale) Squadron is an impressive unit and it was a pleasure to join Flight Lieutenant John Hitchen and his Squadron at the annual awards dinner.”
And as for the impromptu performance he commented: “Judging by the applause, the audience seemed happy, but I hope not to make a habit of this!”
