Commandant joins Duke of Gloucester for Wing Review
Topic: News Region: London & South East
Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Ian Stewart has reviewed Middlesex Wing in a visit that he described as ‘poignant’.
The review took place on Battle of Britain Sunday – an historic event for the Royal Air Force family, with the backdrop for the event being the soon to be closed RAF Uxbridge. It proved to be an historic day for the cadets and staff involved as it was the last time that they would parade on the site.
Also in attendance was HRH the Duke of Gloucester, who kindly gave out awards and stood before the parading cadets along with the Commandant.
Air Commodore Stewart said: "I am extremely glad that I joined the Duke of Gloucester for the review of Middlesex Wing at Royal Air Force Uxbridge on Battle of Britain Sunday. This was a poignant weekend. Not only were we celebrating the success of the Royal Air Force during this historic battle but we were also marking the end of an era for Royal Air Force Uxbridge. The station is to close within the next few months and this will be the last time that Middlesex Wing will parade on this site.
I was impressed to see over 450 cadets and their staff parading before the Duke. The true value of the Air Training Corps was there for all to see and I congratulate the wing for the quality of their drill and the vibrancy of the demonstrations. All in all, this was an excellent day for Middlesex Wing."
