Cadets from 291 (Westminster and Chelsea) Squadron, Air Training Corps got to grips with the oversized anniversary cracker at the squadron’s headquarters.
Cadet Corporal Veronica Fraser said: “This is a special moment in the history of the RAF Air Cadets and we wanted to make it special – what better than a giant cracker. We love the activities, training and the flying - I can recommend it to everyone.”
Warrant Officer Roland Mackenzie, Officer Commanding of 291 (Westminster & Chelsea) Squadron said: “We were proud and honoured to be able to pull the giant 75th Anniversary Christmas cracker on behalf of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets to finish off 2016 and our 75th year.”
Squadron Leader Philip Jones said: “It was a wonderful evening to mark the end of the 75th year – the cadets couldn’t resist the cracker.”
Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty said: “Well it’s true to say we have had a fantastic year and we wish everyone a brilliant festive break.
“We’ve marked our 75th year with Royal events - launched by our Patron, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and with parades, a national torch relay which was carried through hundreds of local communities and visited major landmarks.
“We enjoyed a magical musical extravaganza at RAF College Cranwell, Lincolnshire and we flew cadets in the back of the famous Red Arrows’ jets. We even swam the English Channel, planted trees as a legacy and some of our 1,000 squadrons undertook a sports challenge.
“Our veterans, cadets and volunteers have joined in the celebrations and now, at the end of 2016 we can proudly say we have raised the profile of this wonderful national youth organisation to new heights. Merry Christmas everyone.”
