Qualifications needed: 2 GCSEs/Standards at grade G/6 in English Language and Maths

Qualifications you can gain: Apprenticeship in Communication Technologies (Telecomms); City & Guilds in Fibre Optics; Certificate in Working at Height; NVQ in Communications Technology Practitioners (Level 2)

First things first – you need a good head for heights.

As an RAF Aerial Erector, it’s your job to install and maintain ground-based radomes (radar protective covering), complex aerial systems and the fibre optic cable networks that RAF radars need for safe aircraft operations. From assembling mobile aircraft hangars to erecting masts and fitting large radio antennae – you’ll specialise in a huge range of jobs.

And you’ll do the jobs all over the world – so you’ve got to have a love for travel too!
