Regiment Gunners are a specialist infantry unit, trained to defend RAF aircraft, people and bases across the world.
They’re experts in infantry tactics and can use a whole range of weapons – from pistols, rifles and light machine guns, to mortars, anti-tank missiles and heavy machine guns.
They’re also skilled in the use of the latest night-vision aids and surveillance equipment, and can drive a variety of vehicles, quad bikes and motorbikes. Don’t have a driving licence? Don’t worry – you’ll earn one in training.
Gunners can also choose to become even more specialist in certain areas – like parachuting into combat zones, guarding Buckingham Palace, working as a small, elite team used to recover downed aircrew, or even becoming a sniper – an expert marksman and master of camouflage.
Sound exciting? You'll be given the opportunity to have a taster of Regiment life during the selection process when you will go through a Potential Gunner Acquaintance Course (PGAC). And did you know you can apply to join the RAF Regiment from the age of 15 years and 9 months?
