Many RAF jobs are mentally as well as physically demanding – so it’s important that the RAF have staff on hand to look after the mental health of RAF personnel too. Mental Health Nurses are specialists in a range of diagnostic procedures and modern treatments. From drug therapy to psychotherapy – they’re equipped to provide the highest level of care.
All Mental Health Nurses are trained to work on fixed-wing, Aeromedical Evacuation aircraft, where they’re responsible for providing psychiatric care to personnel and their dependants returning to the UK. They may also work in Departments of Community Mental Health, Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centres and at Princess Mary’s Hospital in Cyprus.
