In combat situations, frontline troops often need new supplies of weapons, ammunition, medical supplies and armed support – and time is almost always of the essence.
Whether it’s supplies or troops, cargo needs to be loaded onto support aircraft as quickly and safely as possible. And with only a couple of minutes between touch-down and take-off to make combat zone deliveries, unloading has to be done even more swiftly, in potentially life-threatening situations.
The Weapon Systems Operator Crewman is responsible for all this, and may even be called upon to offer hands-on assistance and information to the Pilot, as well as possibly operating aircraft defence systems.
