History
Since being founded in 1918, the RAF has been involved in some of the UK’s most significant historical moments, from counteracting German aircraft in the Battle of Britain, to helping rescue over 100 people during the Cornwall floods of 2004.
And as the needs of the country have changed over time, so has the technology. Old Camel bi-planes used during World War I have been adapted and improved over time, to become the ground-breaking technology of today, like the RAF’s Eurofighter Typhoon – an attack and defence jet capable of speeds two times the speed of sound.
And in this section, you can find it all! An interactive timeline, detailing the rise of the RAF over the years, a page on the RAF Museum, the place to go for RAF history, and our RAF Falcons section, which tells you all about the RAF’s parachute display team – one of the RAF’s most exciting teams to date! It’s all here.
