They save lives, boost morale and keep troops performing at their peak in some of the most demanding environments in the world. That’s why ration packs (or ‘rat packs’) are a vital part of life in the field.

In the civilian world, men need around 2,500 calories a day, while women need 2,000. In the Armed Forces, they need a massive 3,600. So rat packs contain an ideal mix of high energy food – totalling 4,000 calories a pack.

There’s more to it than energy though – rat packs must offer a choice of foods that are appealing to troops, and must also meet a range of dietary requirements, from vegetarian to kosher.
