About us
What we do
In addition to a very high standard of flying instruction by service instructors, squadron members orgainse and take part in many sports, adventure and force development (FD) training activities. Past expeditions have included trekking in Corsica, winter skiing in the French Alps and multi activity adventurous training based at Lake Garda in Italy. In addition, as part of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, squadron members are eligible for adventure training offered by all three services. Please have a look at our Gallery area to see a selection of images from our past activities.
What we expect in return
By far the best part, from the students' point of view, is that all of this training is free or subsidised. Students are paid an attendance allowance and there is no commitment to join the Royal Air Force at the end of their degrees. What we do ask is that you attend the squadron regularly to fly as well as Tuesday evenings for ground training. Many members do choose to apply for sponsorship with the RAF or direct entry after graduation and the squadron provides training to help them with selection.
Interested?
If you're tempted by the thought of spending your days at 5000 feet experiencing aerobatics, flying navigational exercises through the Welsh mountains, climbing to the highest peaks or kayaking through the deepest gorges please take a look at our how to join page. There are nationality and medical requirements to satisfy but, beyond that, we welcome applications from everyone.
