The job
If you think an RAF Personnel Support Officer is someone who spends their working life chained to a desk – forget it. Accountant, estate manager, personnel officer, public relations expert – these are just some of the opportunities awaiting you in a career that emphasises variety. Most of all, it’s a job that will bring you in to contact with staff from all areas of the RAF – people skills are a must.
One day you could be out inspecting runway-light repairs, the next day in planning meetings for a new sports complex. Later postings could see you travelling the country as a schools careers liaison officer or involved in a wider spectrum of personnel and welfare matters. The branch also offers opportunities to gain accredited qualifications from professional bodies.
Sponsorship
We may be able to invest in your future by funding your studies until you’re ready to start training as a Personnel Support Officer.
You can apply for a University Bursary of £2,000 a year if you’re doing a degree that has been approved by the RAF. In return for the sponsorship, we ask you to become a member of the University Air Squadron (UAS) and to join the RAF once you finish your studies.
As well as financial support, the sponsorship is an opportunity to get first-hand experience of the challenges you’ll face working with our people, technology and aircraft – and we’ll also give you free flying lessons.
To find out more about sponsorship, contact an RAF Senior Careers Liaison Officer via the careers staff at your school or college – or visit your local Armed Forces Careers Office.
