Can I Join
The RAF values every individual’s unique contribution, irrespective of race, ethnic origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or social background. We welcome people from all different backgrounds with all different qualifications.
We want people who share our values – who have the enthusiasm, commitment and self-motivation to take on the challenge of a career in the RAF. The majority of our roles are open to both men and women, however, for reasons of combat effectiveness, the RAF Regiment is open to men only.
To join, you’ll need to meet our requirements for nationality and residency, age and fitness. Each job also has its own minimum academic and other requirements. It's up to you to check your eligibility before you apply for a role in the RAF. If you don't, your application may be refused further down the line.
If you have ever been convicted of an offence you may still be able to apply for an RAF role. You will need to give details of any 'unspent' convictions before you submit an application and check your eligibility to join under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You can download a copy of the Act below.
You can find out more about our roles and the kind of people we need for the RAF by hearing from people who have already joined in our jobs section. You can also find out which jobs suit you based on your personality and preferences.
