Every job in the RAF has a minimum and maximum age limit. The minimum age can differ between roles and is specified within each job description.

Minimum age – Airman

You need to be at least 15 years and nine months before the RAF can proceed with your application to become an airman.

Minimum age – Officer

The youngest you can join as a commissioned officer, non-commissioned aircrew or non-commissioned air traffic controller is 17 years and six months.

Maximum age

All RAF careers have an upper age limit. Check the job descriptions for the roles you are interested in to find out if you are eligible. If you are over the maximum age limit, you may still be eligible to apply to join the RAF Reserves.

Parental consent

If you are under 18 years of age, you will need consent from your parent or guardian before you can progress your application at the Armed Forces Careers Office.
