Sponsorship
If you think you’ve got what it takes to be an officer in the RAF, we could sponsor you through sixth form and even university. Competition can be stiff so you’ll need to show a real commitment to your studies and a potential future in the RAF.
Sponsored undergraduates are awarded a bursary to help support them through their studies. As a medical student, you can also apply for a Cadetship, which covers the cost of your final two years of study – this includes tuition fees, a book allowance and a ‘salary’.
‘Sponsorship made a big difference and, because I had a secure job to go to, I didn’t have to run around looking for a placement in the last few months before my final exams.’
Flight Lieutenant Faye Buckley, Dentist
But that’s not all. As part of your sponsorship package, you’ll join your nearest University Air Squadron (UAS) where you’ll have the opportunity to play sports, take part in overseas expeditions, try out fieldcraft and leadership training and even get some flying experience.
After completing university, you’ll spend three terms of ten weeks at the RAF College Cranwell, completing the Initial Officer Training course. From there you’ll move on to your specialist training.
For more information about the UAS, visit their website or call our careers information line on 0845 605 5555.
‘Out of all the societies I could have joined, the UAS was by far the best option, simply because of the number of things it offers. Pretty much everything that you’d pay to do at uni, you can get paid to do with the UAS.’
Officer Cadet Andrew Glykys, London UAS
