Adventurous training
As part of a worldwide fighting force, it’s essential that RAF personnel have qualities like courage, leadership and the ability to make important decisions under pressure. To make sure our people are up to the job, we teach them these vital skills… using some unusual methods.
Assault on the senses
Need to build up your courage? Try swimming with sharks. Want your team to be as solid as a rock? Send them down the side of a cliff together. From diving to kayaking, we’ll support you in just about any adventurous activity you can think of.
As well as being brilliant fun, adventurous training is a chance to learn new skills, discover your leadership abilities, see places you’ve never seen before and test yourself to the limit. And best of all, you can train and socialise with your mates at the same time!
‘The way our training system works means there are usually gaps between courses. I happened to have some downtime during the winter a few years back, so I joined a ski expedition. Today I’m a qualified ski instructor and able to take other people away on courses.’

‘Earlier this year I spent 10 days on Ascension Island en route to a deployment in the Falkland Islands. Ascension is half way down the coast of Africa so the weather was great. We climbed the dormant volcanoes and Green Mountain which was a real challenge.’
