Our role abroad
The RAF is a fighting force, and we are always ready for combat but, in the last half-century, despite recent events in Iraq, combat operations have been relatively rare and the emphasis has been on peacekeeping.
We work alone, as part of major international operations with other elements of the UK Armed Forces and with international allies. The defence of British interests is always our top priority.
In trouble spots around the globe, we also help police the skies and support peacekeeping and reconstruction initiatives.
We are always on call to bring aid to the victims of war and natural disasters.
