A Welcome to the RAF Chaplains’ Branch Website from
the Venerable Jonathan P M Chaffey QHC BA MA RAF, Chaplain-in-Chief (RAF)
The Mission of the Royal Air Force Chaplains Branch is to serve the RAF Community through: Prayer Presence and Proclamation
RAF Chaplains are at the very heart of their community, responsible for the spiritual welfare of all, irrespective of rank or religious background. Chaplains are recruited from the main Christian Denominations, and their ministry of prayer, presence, and proclamation is lived out daily on RAF bases at home, overseas and in areas of conflict. In others words, where there are RAF personnel, a Chaplain will be with them. This can mean personal sacrifice, physically, spiritually and mentally as the RAF seeks to serve the demands of the nation, often far from home and in places of danger (chaplains never bear arms even in areas of conflict).
As you surf through this web site the stories of individual Chaplains and their life and work will be revealed. This is the story of God’s love in action, and as one airman said to his chaplain, ‘You are here to remind us that there is something better and bigger than us out there – that God loves us’.
I hope you enjoy your encounter with RAF Chaplaincy through this website, and ask simply that you remember us, and the community we serve, in prayer.
