Cpl Kelly Snelling Cpl Kelly Snelling – IT Manager

In the Headquarters, Cpl Kelly Snelling manages a small team of technicians who provide technical support and diagnose problems associated with the large computer network used in the Headquarters. Kelly explained, “The job is very technical and involves fixing problems on both computers and the network. At first the job was initially a bit daunting, particularly as I have no direct chain of command, so I effectively have to run the section myself. Since then, 16 Signals Regiment have taken over running the infrastructure, which has helped enormously.

Aside from running the section, Kelly manages 2 Army Lance-Corporals, “Luckily when I was in Cyprus I worked with the Army, so I understand how they operate and this hasn’t caused me any problems”.

When she arrived ain Kabul, Kelly wasn’t sure what to expect, “When I got here I knew I would be accommodated in a 16-man tent and thought this would be very basic, but fortunately they’re really well set-up and much better than I expected”.

Asked if she enjoyed her work, “Yes, It’s great, much better than I expected and I’m really enjoying myself. The job is a real challenge, as we have to manage any problems that occur ourselves, and being busy all the time makes the day pass really quickly”.
