Red Arrows to join US counterparts in historic New York flight

The Red Arrows will join the US Air Force Thunderbirds, F-22 Raptors and F-35 Lightning II Demo Team in a flight down New York's Hudson River on August 22.

The Hudson flight will approach from the north side of the city, over the river, in a procession of four team formations.

Leading the formation will be the Thunderbirds, followed by the Red Arrows in signature Big Battle nine-aircraft formation.  Two F-35 Lightning IIs and the F-22 Raptors will trail the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team.

The Hudson Flight will fly south to New York Harbour, where the formations will all make a sweeping right turn and then proceed back up the river for a second pass.  They will make a pass over West Point Military Academy prior to landing back at New York Stewart International Airport.

The Red Arrows will be part of a Hudson River flight on August 22.

Bryan Lilley, chairman of the New York International Air Show, said: “This is a truly historic opportunity. Never before have we had all these signature military demonstration teams in one place at one time to be able orchestrate something like this.  It will be a once-in-a-lifetime event.”

The US Navy Blue Angels and Red Arrows will headline the New York International Air Show on August 24-25, which will also feature the Northeast debut of the US Air Force F-35 Lightning II Demo Team.  The US Air Force Thunderbirds will headline the Rochester International Air Show the same weekend and are joining the Hudson Flight enroute there.

The Hudson event and New York Air Show are part of the Red Arrows' 11-week tour to North America, promoting the best of British and supporting UK interests in the United States and Canada.
