RAF Falcons 2008

Bournemouth Air Show 09

Show report by Sgt Ceri Marshman

Bournemouth was the next stop on the RAF Falcons calender for 2009. The Team were booked for 4 descents over the weekend. We boarded the aircraft, a Chinook from 18 Sqn RAF Odiham for the 60 min trip to Bournemouth. Unfortuantly the weather on appraoch to the drop zone was very windy and the demonstration was cancelled. This as the Team found out became the trend throughout the weekend although the sun was shining the wind was strong and Friday's jump was also postponed. However Saturday's show was given the go-ahead and at 10000ft the Team started thier display launching a 3 man base followed by 4 trackers. Smokes lit the RAF Falcons fell towards earth at over 120 mph pulling around 5000 ft on the Team coaches call. We quickly built our famous non contact canopy stack and wowed the crowds all the way down to the beach below. The Team were met by thousands of adoring fans a great culmination to a fantastic demonstration. Sunday came and went with the wind again forcing the cancellation of the jump. The Team would like to thank The Bournemouth Air Show for inviting us to perform and we look forward to seeing them next year.
