2010 HAWK T.MK.1/1A DISPLAY PILOT

Flight Lieutenant Scott "Disco" Griffith

Flt Lt Scott "Disco" Griffith, aged 32, was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1998 and completed his Advanced Fast Jet training at RNZAF Ohakea in the North Island.

Following the New Zealand Government's decision to disband its Fast Jet Force, Scott, along with a dozen or so other pilots, elected to join the RAF. He moved to the UK in 2002 and following a short familiarisation course, was posted to the Tornado F3. Scott completed 2 tours on the F3, the first as a front line pilot on XI Sqn and XXV Sqn at RAF Leeming in Yorkshire, the second as an instructor on the F3 OCU, 56 and 43 Sqns, at RAF Leuchars in Fife.

During his F3 years Scott held Quick Reaction Alert in the UK, the Falklands and the Baltic States and participated in multi-national exercises in Europe, North America and the Middle East.

After the F3, Scott was posted to RAF Valley, preceded by an Out of Area tour on Op Herrick. He worked with UK and NATO forces in a ground role as Close Air Support Planner and Liaison Officer.

Scott has been at RAF Valley for one year and is an instructor with 19 Sqn, the RAF's Fast Jet Tactical Weapons Unit. He is recently married to Sarah and if he can find the time likes to enjoy mountain biking, snowboarding, motor biking, diving, wakeboarding and surfing.
