History of 587 Squadron:

No.587 Squadron was formed at Weston Zoyland on 1 December 1943 from Nos.1600, 1601 and 1625 Flights, for anti-aircraft co-operation duties in south-west England and South Wales, using various convenient airfields in the area to base detachments near the batteries with which they were intended to co-operate. Henleys, Martinets, Oxfords and Hurricanes formed the initial equipment of the squadron and were later replaced by Spitfires and Vengeances. On 15 June 1946, No.587 was disbanded.
