History of 679 Squadron:

No.679 Squadron was formed on 1 December 1943 at Ipswich from Nos.1616 and 1627 Flights with Martinets and Hurricanes, for anti-aircraft co-operation duties in East Anglia. Barracudas and Vengances supplemented these later, and all four types were in service when the squadron was disbanded on 26 June 1945.
