Royal Air Force History
History of No. 195 Squadron.
Motto: "Velocitate Fortis " ("Strong by speed ") No.195 squadron was formed at Duxford on 16 November 1942 and began to receive Typhoons later in the month. In February 1943 it moved to Lancashire for a period of training and in May arrived in East Anglia to begin flying sweeps and armed reconnaissance missions over France in preparation for the invasion of Europe. Before it could take part in that operation, however the squadron was disbanded on 15 February 1944. On 1 October 1944, No.195 reformed from C Flight of No.115 Squadron at Witchford as a Lancaster squadron in Bomber Command. It took part in raids over Germany for the rest of the war and after a short period of transport duties was disbanded on 14 August 1945.
