Charity

With an active calendarof sports, adventurous training and flying there is little time for much elseon MASUAS. Despite this we still manage to find time to do as much as possiblefor charities both in the local community and on a national level where thisyear we will mainly be supporting BLESMA (British LimblessEx Service Men's Association) and Ria’s Rainbow.

Throughout the courseof the last year the squadron has raised over £900 of which £500 came from afashion show organised at the OTC Barracks in Manchester. Other fundraisingevents have been on a smaller scale such as bake sales although several largeevents are lined up for the new year from which we hope to exceed the amount ofmoney raised last year.

In addition to generalfundraising, MASUAS have begun to take much more of an active role in theirlocal communities of Manchester and Southport. The Squadron collected for theWood Street mission (a charity that aims to help out families in and around theManchester area) at Christmas time and aims to do so again this year. On top ofthis a group of students heads down to Platt Fields Park on the 3rdSunday of every month to help out the ‘Friends of Platt Fields park’ with theclean-up and maintenance work, several students help with a charity thatcarries out dog walking for the elderly in Manchester and finally we are in theprocess of arranging for regular volunteers to head down to a local soupkitchen every week.

In the Southport areathe Squadron is becoming increasingly more involved with a charity called WACA(Woodvale and Ainsdale Communities Association) where we aim to become involvedwith several things they are doing this year including running local communitysessions and courses that help young people gain their Duke of Edinburghawards.
