Sailing
Sailing is one of the major parts of Adventurous Training on MASUAS. The squadronuses Joint Service Adventurous Sailing Training Centre (JSASTC) to undertake sailing expeditions all year round. Sailing fulfils the main aims of Adventurous Training by improving teamwork, communication, gaining new skills and, most importantly, having fun!
The squadron runs numerous expeditions with frequent weekend or weekly sails in the Solent on 34ft Victoria yachts. Famous throughout the UAS system for their sailing prowess, the squadron has recently undertaken a seven week expedition from Gosport to Largs and back again. This exercise involved over 20 of the squadron’s keen sailors. The Joint services centre also run trips around globe either racing or cruising, which MASUAS students frequently get involved in.
The vast majority of these expeditions are student led as the necessary qualifications can be awarded through the squadron and Joint Services. This allows students to gain skills in organisation, delegation and leadership, all of which help build better officers. Sailing is an amazing sport with so much to learn and ways to improve your character and confidence.
