Shawbury Get Tough

Staff from RAF Shawbury have completed the annual summer Tough Guy challenge at Perton near Wolverhampton, raising over £300 for the three Service Benevolent Funds and £1400 for the Tough Guy charities in the process. Members of the units Central Air Traffic Control School and Physical Education Flight (PEd Flt) took up the challenge over 8 miles of an assault course with a difference.

The course is designed to provide the ultimate challenge. Beginning with a cross country run the course includes underwater tunnels, barbed wire fences, burning hay bales, electric fencing and towering frames of slippery poles and netting. 5000 people took on the event with over 600 failing to finish.

Corporal Liam Salt, of the PEd Flt said,’ the event was extremely challenging and difficult. It was warm and wet and really energy sapping. We were pleased to complete the course and raise a good amount for the Station Charity.’
