Dan Snow and friends. The Battle of Britain’s politics and battles were brought to life at RAF Leeming when journalist icon Peter Snow and his historian son Dan visited to give a talk.

Peter and Dan Snow were invited to give a talk on the famous battle to personnel at the North Yorkshire Station, and interspersed the tale with fascinating facts and details about the military leaders and politicians of the Second World War, as well as the aircraft involved in dog fights over the British skies.

A treat was also in store for Dan in the morning, with the chance to fly in one of XXV(F) Sqn’s Tornado F3 jets. The Squadron will be disbanding at the end of next month, so Dan was one of the last few guests to ever fly with them.

Pilots in front of Tornado F3 jets.He said of his jet trip and time at RAF Leeming: “It was incredible. Everybody’s dream is to go up in a fast jet and I’ve achieved that. I feel privileged. It was an amazing experience but also a very useful one. Me and Dad spend a lot of time talking about military tactics and actually to go out and see a bit of it first hand was very useful.

“I always learn as much from these trips as anyone I talk to. I love talking to the military because they regard history as something very real which makes them good at their jobs. It’s great working with my dad. It’s an honour really to get to know him as a friend as well as a dad.”
