During the winter of 2016, athletes took to the slopes of Meribel, France to represent their service in the Inter-Service Snow Sports Championship (ISSSC).
This event marks the 10th anniversary of the ISSSC at which 144 athletes from the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force compete across 3 disciplines representing their respective service.

The Combined Service Winter Sports Association (CSWSA) has funded the Inter-Service Snow Sports Championship with the help of a variety of sponsors. The Association exists to promote excellence in winter sports within Her Majesty’s Armed Forces; through the provision of annual all ranks competitions. These are organised in a manner which affords prestige to those competing and enables subsequent entry into national and international competitions for the most talented.
SAC Jack Welson from RAF Coningsby was lucky enough to be put forward as the RAF Photographer, one of the Service Photographers, to capture imagery from this event. Jack, from Telford, Shropshire, is our newest member of the Royal Air Force Coningsby Photographic Section. He joined the RAF as a Photographer in September 2014 and on completion of Photographic Trade training, was posted to RAF Coningsby.
Jack said “To be given this experience was incredible! It was an excellent event to cover and I hope I have done the athletes justice with my images!”
