Handover of Operations
Handover of Operations Wing Command
The responsibility of RAF Marham’s Operations Wing has been handed over to Wing Commander Andy Challen by Wing Commander ‘Chaz’ Kennett after 2 years in command.
Wg Cdr Kennett, originally from Smallfield in Surrey said: “Commanding Operations Wing at one of the RAF’s busiest fast jet air stations has been both a challenge and an enormous pleasure. Over the past 2 years I have had the honour to work with the talented and dedicated people at Marham to support Tornado GR4 operations worldwide. To see the selfless commitment and total devotion to duty of those who serve at Marham has been a humbling experience and one that I will cherish for a long time to come. It is with a touch of sadness that I hand over Operations Wing, but I can at least take a sense of pride in having been part of a tremendous organisation.”
Wg Cdr Challen is no stranger to RAF Marham having completed a frontline tour with II (AC) Sqn in 1997, before returning at a later date to frontline flying with IX (B) Sqn during which time he was awarded the Queens Commendation for Valuable Service. On promotion to Squadron Leader he held the posts of Officer Commanding Weapons and Tactics Training and the Executive Officer on XIII Sqn also at RAF Marham.
Wg Cdr Challen said: “It is a huge privilege to be given the opportunity to command Operations Wing at RAF Marham. The Operations Wing has an important role in enabling, supporting, and refining air power for employment on current operations over Afghanistan, as well as wider air power roles.”
