Service Battle of Britain Parade

Service

Service

All students are expected to undertake ground training. The Squadron meets once a week at our Town Headquarters, in central Newcastle.

During the evening there is usually a 45 minute presentation from an invited guest speaker. Often these speakers are serving or ex-serving members of the Royal Air Force, and are often ex-Squadron members themselves. These presentations can be lively and exciting -- recently we have been fortunate enough to have received talks on UAV’s, British Counter Terrorism Unit, VC10 operations, and the RAF Regiment’s role in Operations Telic and Herrick, amongst many others.

The aim is to educate members of the Squadron in how the services function, their ethics and also provide a taste of services life.

There is the chance for Squadron members to further their service knowledge through week long summer vacation attachments (SVAs) during the long vacation. Students spend one week with a regular RAF Squadron shadowing RAF personnel in their daily jobs. Recently Squadron members have undertaken SVAs with Typhoon squadrons at RAF Coningsby, Squadrons based at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, and many other Squadrons nationwide.
