The Bull Ring in Seville

Rest Day - Seville

By Rebecca Screech

Seville With Monte Gordo being situated on the Portugese/Spanish border a mid training week rest day provided an ideal opportunity to visit Spain's third largest city `Seville´.  Only a 2 hour drive from out hotel, the 5 non-beach goers were able to book a ´not too early start´ coach tour from one of the many local companies offering the trip.  Seville is home to Christopher Columbus, the opera Carmen and San Juan to name but a few as well as boosting the largest cathedral in Europe.  The cathedral is an amazing piece of architecture and houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus who set sail from Seville in 1492 in his search for America.  The Cathedral also has a tower which has cobbled ramps instead of steps, this was so the Knights of the Templar could ride their horses to the top!

Seville Cathedral Following a busy morning of sightseeing, and a thoroughly enjoyable traditional Spanish lunch, the rest of the day was spent resting tired legs and taking in the many sights and sounds of busy Seville from on of the many cafe's.  The day out to Seville offered a change of scenery and tempo as well as the chance to see a stunning city and it is definitely worth a visit if you get the chance. We also managed to learn a bit about the history from our over informative tour guide! A good day out.
