RAF Athlete in Action - Portugal

Throws Perspective

By Fg Off Ester Sandiford

RAF Athlete in Action - Portugal As the only thrower on the Visit, I was not sure of what to expect. Fortunately my coach provided me with a comprehensive programme to follow through the week. I had strict instructions from my coach to make sure I had video footage taken of me throwing so he could see my progress. Luckily Flt Lt Ben Trapnell and his trusty camera were at hand!

When the team arrived on the Saturday I was more than happy with the fantastic sunshine and the perfect sunba….. I mean throwing conditions. The weather has been lovely throughout the week and bar one or two rain breaks I have been able to throw and do drills everyday. As part of my training programme I have been able to utilise the wonderful gym facilities, which included a comprehensive range of weights.

RAF Athlete in Action - Portugal The team was split into the development squad, sprinters and distance runners. I have trained with the two former groups; learning and incorporating some of the different ways they train and added them to my own programme. Ruddy Farquharson has been a gem in taking us all through a varied core/abs programme and I have learnt a lot from him. Based on this year I can’t wait for the rest of the season and 2010!
