2010 RAF Cross Country Championships
The 2010 RAF Cross Country Championships will take place at RAF High Wycombe in the woods behind the Headquarters (HQ) on 1 Site. The course will be similar to the HQ Air Cmd course, but reducing the length of each lap by approximately a mile. The Men's race will therefore be 2 laps totalling approximately 6 miles. The Ladies and Juniors race will be approximately 3 miles.
The RAFAA Chairman asked the RAF Cross Country Executive RAF Distance Running Manager and Cross Country Championships Secretary (with effect 2010) to consider a change of venue to provide the Championships with more of a challenge that reflects the origins of cross country as opposed to a continental course over parklands. The course will certainly provide this as it has many technical challenges for the athlete and also challenges that a recreational runner may find more rewarding that running across sports fields. The course will be trialled in 2010 after which the RAFAA Executive Committee will consider if it remains at RAF High Wycombe or reverts back to RAF Halton.
The RAF is scheduled to host the 2010 Inter Services Cross Country Championships and prior to this event, the RAFAA Executive Committee will have to consider if this should also move.
The Police v Fire v Various Clubs will still be held at RAF Halton over the extended course.
Full details on the 2010 Championships will be published on the RAFAA web site nearer to the event.
