InterRegion Basketball Competition

TheSOUTH take the RAFBBA Inter-Region trophy.

TheRAF Basketball Association held its annual Inter-Region Competitionover 22-24 Oct 10. Six teams were entered into the competition fromthe 4 regions, this produced 16 basketball matches which were playedover the 3 days. The league format established meant that all teamsplayed either 4 or 5 matches over a very competitive couple ofopening days.

The2 teams at the top of the league SOUTH A and EAST A competed in thefinal which saw the lead swing from one team to the next with theSOUTH climbing back from 13 points down at the end of the 1^st quarter and 10 down at half time. They fought back in the 3^rdquarter to go 5 points up at one point and extended this to 8 earlyin the 4^th. The EAST then staged their comeback tying the score midway throughthe 4^th. There was only 1 point in it with 2 minutes to go but foul troublefor the EAST allowed the SOUTH to sneak ahead, eventually winning by5. Final score was 91-86.

TheMVP for the event was FS Pete Clowes from Wittering (EAST).

The2 B teams were primarily of newer or more inexperienced players,assisted by experienced former players; they consisted of male andfemale players. Teams from the EAST and the WEST fought a greatcompetition putting up fierce resistance against some of the A teams. In the final, the lead switched numerous times through the 1^stquarter, only for the WEST to start pulling ahead in the 2^nd. A lead of about 12 points was then maintained until late in the 3^rdwhen the WEST started pulling away, dominating the 4^thand eventually winning 73-35.

Bothteams played with great spirit throughout with AC Jake Addison beingcongratulated for his rapid development as a brand new basketballplayer.
