Welcome to RAF Bobsleigh, Luge & Skeleton Association
Welcome to the home of the Royal Air Force Bobsleigh, Luge & Skeleton Association. The BLSA currently supports 5 different ice disciplines and strives to promote, support and develop each discipline to the highest standard of competition.
The 5 elements of the BLSA are Bobsleigh, Olympic Luge, Skeleton, Natural Luge and Cresta. The Association brings together 5 of the most exciting ice sports available with the following aims:
- To develop qualities of leadership, courage and risk taking in RAF personnel through exposure to adventurous, and physically and mentally demanding sports.
- To develop the managerial skills of junior leaders through the organisation and conduct of sporting events and routine Association business.
- To maximize participation in the ice sports by RAF personnel through the medium of an annual novice event.
- To excel and win in the annual inter-Service competitions for Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton.
- To promote the development of individual athletes at international level in conjunction with the national associations for each sport and through the medium of elite athlete status for selected personnel.
The current Chairman of the BLSA is Air Commodore Steven Abbott. Air Commodore Abbot is Commandant General RAF Regt and Air Officer RAF Police. He holds the staff appointment of Assistant Chief of Staff Force Protection in HQ 2 Gp. Air Commodore Abbott is an experienced rider of the Cresta Run, from which the Skeleton discipline was derived. He was awarded his RAF Colours in 1998.
