With it’s proximity to the Heritage Coast and Cheviot Hills, the market town of Alnwick has held the accolade of best place to live in Britain. The surrounding streets are filled with interesting shops, pubs and restaurants. Alnwick Castle, a mighty medieval fortress is one of Europe’s finest with its magnificent structure and beautiful grounds. It was the location for such films as Harry Potter, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Elizabeth and the TV series Blackadder and it has also been the Percy family home for 700 years. Within close proximity of the Castle is the Baliffgate Museum which captures the unique character of Alnwick; bringing to life the people and places in north Northumberland in a lively, interactive style.

The market town of Alnwick has many more beautiful attractions, such as the Alnwick Gardens, which has the world’s largest Tree House, and a garden for all seasons. Just a five minute walk from the Gardens is Barter Books, situated in the old Railway Station which is one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain. A two minute walk from Barter Books heading towards the town centre will bring you to The Alnwick Playhouse built in 1926. The Playhouse presents a balanced programme of music, drama, dance and film, embracing local amateur groups and the best touring professional companies.
