Education in Northumberland
The Local Education Authority (LEA) in Northumberland (Northumberland County Council) is responsible for early years and childcare, schools and services for children and young people with additional education needs. In most of the county schooling is conducted in a 3 tier system of schools: First schools, for children from reception to Year 4 (ages 4 – 9), Middle schools, for children from Years 5 – 8 (Ages 9 – 13) and High Schools for Years 9 – 13 (ages 13 – 18).
