Forward Support
Forward Support Wing
Forward Support Wing (Fwd Spt Wg) was formed on 4 Apr 05. It brought together those logistic organisations directly supporting the operational output of the Station, comprising Engineering Operations Squadron (EOS), Engineering Support Squadron (ESS) and Logistics Squadron (Logs Sqn).
Engineering Operations Squadron
The co-ordination of all engineering activities in direct support of the operational output of the Station falls to EOS, which is divided into 2 flights: Plans and Co-ordination Flight (PCF) and Communications and Information Systems Engineering Flight (CIS Eng Flt). PCF controls aircraft maintenance documentation procedures, provides quality assurance and, through the Station Publications and Forms Store, issues the many publications and forms required on the Unit. However, the focal point of the Flight is Engineering Operations, based in the Station Operations Room, where the Duty Engineering Operations Controller allocates resources for flight-line support in liaison with the operations and movements staffs. CIS Eng Flt provides maintenance for airfield navigation aids, ground-to-air communications and ground-based communications systems, as well as the Base Network Communications Centre and IS facilities on the Station.
Engineering Support Squadron
The 2 flights that make up ESS are General Engineering Flight (GEF) and Parachute and Armament Engineering Flight (PAEF). Each flight has its own distinct areas of responsibility, entailing maintenance of equipment associated with aircraft support and/or other military activities, such as parachuting. GEF looks after a broad range of equipment, from complex aircraft ground support equipment to domestic electrical items. PAEF is subdivided into 3 sections maintaining arms and munitions, aircraft survival equipment and flying clothing, and parachuting equipment in direct support of specialist parachuting for all 3 Services.
Logistic Squadron
Logistics Squadron (Logs Sqn) comprises 7 Flights: Base Supply Flight (BSF), Forward Stores Flight (FSF), Supply Control and Accounting Flight (SCAF), Supply Chain Management Flight (SCMF), Mobility Supply Flight (MSF), Barrack Stores and Clothing Stores. In addition, Logs Sqn has a dedicated Management Cell, focussed on Sqn administration, Quality Awareness and Training Standards (QA&TS) and planning for upcoming tasks generated by Programme Future Brize.
Logs Sqn is instrumental in providing holistic logistics supply support to RAF Brize Norton’s aircraft, personnel and engineering requirements, whilst in the UK or deployed in support of operations.
Barrack Stores provides domestic supply support for all barrack stores items in support of RAF Brize Norton personnel and parented units.
Clothing Stores provides Military and Civil servant clothing/PPE to RAF Brize Norton personnel and parenting units.
BSF is responsible for the receipt, storage, issue and security of all technical ranges of equipment excluding turn-round spares. It comprises of Technical Supply Group (TSG), Receipt & Dispatch (R&D) and Forward Delivery.
FSF provides logistics supply support for the aircraft types based at RAF Brize Norton (C-130, VC10, Tristar and C-17)
MSF provides support to the dispatch of both AAR and AT deployments at a strategic and tactical level. This can be in an operational and non-operational sense, with both Logistics Supply and Movements personnel able to prepare stock, liaise and deploy in support of Brize Norton’s Force Elements.
SCAF consists of Supply Control, Secondary Accounts Cell, Low Value Purchase (LVP) Cell, Stationery Stores, Office machinery Information technology (OMIT) Cell and Station Publication Forms Store (SPFS).
SCMF provides supply services to ground based units. SCMF comprises of the Supply Chain Management Cell (SCMC), Logistics Operations (Log Ops), and the Ground Logistics Focal Point (GLFP) including MT & GSE Stores.
