BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE
Baggage allowance is as shown on your booking confirmation.
Your baggage allowance is shown on your booking confirmation. This comprises of both cabin baggage, which you take into the aircraft seating compartment (for Op flights on Op HERRICK or Op KIPION this will also be checked-in), and hold baggage which is handed over at check-in. Any baggage presented at check in which is above your entitlement will result in you being charged excess baggage at the current rate. Should you need excess baggage as per the JSP 800, you must request this through DPRC in advance and not on the day of your flight.
HOLD BAGGAGE
Maximum weight per individual hold bag must not exceed 32kgs.
You will be required to surrender your hold baggage to the Air Movements staff when you check-in for your flight. For Health and Safety (H&S) reasons, the maximum weight per individual hold bag must not exceed 32kgs.
HAND BAGGAGE - THIS APPLIES TO OPERATIONAL FLIGHTS ONLY.
Hand baggage allowance is 9kgs (19lbs) - with dimensions of 60 x 53 x 25cms (24 x 21 x 10ins).
The hand baggage allowance is now 9kgs (19lbs) and is limited to only 1 piece per passenger, with maximum dimensions of 60 x 53 x 25cms (24 x 21 x 10ins). All personnel with a service issue laptop computer are to have a signed certificate from their unit security officer iaw JSP 440. Hand baggage must fit in the frame provided at check in. All passengers travelling on the Op HERRICK or Op KIPION Primary or Secondary ALOC will also be required to hand their hand baggage in at check-in. This should include essential items for delays of up to 24 hours.
Passengers travelling on charter flights (Ascension/Akrotiri/Falklands) cabin baggage is not to exceed one bag weighing 9kg. Laptop computers are to be incorporated within the cabin (hand) baggage entitlement.
For the purpose of travel on RAF aircraft, baggage is defined as suitcases and bags holding a passenger’s personal belongings. Accompanied baggage does not include such items as tools and tool boxes, (unless authorised by DSCOM), vehicle spares, engineering equipment or large electrical items. If presented, these items will be rejected at check-in. COMBINED ITINERARIES
If you have a combined itinerary that includes both RAF Trooping and Civil Charter flight, you should check that your baggage does not exceed the allowance limited by your civil flight. You should therefore make certain that the number of pieces, size and weight of your baggage complies with the airlines limitations, whilst ensuring that no one item exceeds the maximum H&S restriction above.
BAGGAGE INSURANCE
The MoD is not liable for the cost of insuring baggage and personal effects. Passengers are strongly advised to obtain their own insurance to cover loss or damage to baggage. Claims in respect of uninsured losses will be considered on an individual basis and limited compensation may be offered, strictly on an ex gratia basis. Such claims should be forwarded on MoD Form 441 or JPA Form 014 (available from the Movements Staff) along with a copy of the ‘Loss / Damage Baggage Form’ to:
