Day 5

In the Saddle

After a well deserved good nights sleep and a good breakfast, myself and Jason left the RV point on bikes along with Pete following behind in the support car. Roy and Andrew were as expected still fast asleep like babies in the RV wagon. We left Armagosa at 0745 on yet again a gloriously cloudless and sunny day. The road surface was good for the whole 88 miles and was undulating in a favourable degree to the cyclists. It was in stark contrast to the previous four days which have been enourmous hill climbs over very tough terrain. After making good progress we reached our lunchtime destination which was at Creech Air Force Base. This is where the lucky members of 39 Sqn (RAF) are based who work with the American Air Force on the Preditor / Reaper project. The Sqn have been keen to get involved to support Op Longroad and wished to meet us on route to show us what 39 Sqn are all about, as well as presenting us with the fantastic amount of £197 they have collectively raised in support of Longroad. The team were very grateful and very much appreciate the fundraising effort and support 39 Sqn have given OPERATION LONGROAD and wish them every success for the future. After leaving Creech (AFB) we set off for Nellis Air Force Base Las Vegas, which is where we were going to stay for the weekend allowing for rest and to catch up on administration duties. Roy and Andrew have also arrived and are both sorting out their sides of expertise being Phisio, and Bike management respectively. Not looking forward to the physio rubdown tonight as I am sore and sunburnt all over and know that Roy will not let up on the level of pressure he applies on ones body, Ouch. Andrew has some extra work tonight as today we experienced our first puncture on the journey.

P.S. The accomomodation at Nellis was second to none.
