Week Three Update

This last week has seen us cycle across Colorado. The only downside was that we had to cross the Rockies first. The most significant climb was up through Wolf Creek, a climb up to 11000 feet. This was compounded by the altitude which definitely got the old lungs working. The scenery was fantastic though and the downhill even better, Nick holds the record of 47.6 mph, which is pretty much as fast a we can get with the gearing we are using. Once through the Rockies we hit the high plains. This is mainly rolling countryside very similar to the Fens or Norfolk, and we can travel for hours without seeing a village, (or city as they are known here). We stopped in a town called Cheyenne Wells for a rest day. It is a great little town in the middle of no where on the Colorado high plains. We were the talk of the town and no one could do enough to help us, we ate for free in Lyle's restaurant, and the sheriff even opened up the local sports pavilion so that we could use the showers. When it came time to leave we were all a bit gutted. We are on target and have crossed into Kansas where all our thoughts are of tornadoes! So far in the last 2 weeks Kansas has had 30 tornadoes. It is nice and hot here but we did have a massive storm the other night. Everyone we speak to, even the local sheriff have warned us what to watch out for, so that we don't get caught out. We have been passed several times by storm chasers, and the news is full of reports of tornado's, so we are expecting some bad weather. Fingers crossed we aren't having any major problems, apart from saddle sores. All of our ailments seem to have cleared up and physically we are holding up pretty well, just the expected aches and pains, unlike the RV! The RV most definitely isn't squaddie proof. So far we have: Broken the outside step; blocked the toilet and flooded the van; lost a wheel trim; broke the fridge; pulled the oven door off; set fire to the sink, and crashed it twice into concrete posts. I guess the deposit will be void, it is probably best we do find a tornado!! Anyway that's about all for now, I'm off to get beaten up by Roy on the physio table (its worse than the riding!).

Take care,
Jason
