No1 School of Technical Training
No 1 School of Technical Training (No1 SofTT)
Based at Cosford, No1 SofTT consists of Aerosystems Training Wing (ATW) and Military Training Wing (MTW), and Training Development Wing (TDW).
- ATW focuses on the planning and delivery of technical training to those RAF trades that specialise in either the airframe, propulsion, avionics, air electrical, weapons or survival equipment aspects of aeronautical engineering (including Trade Management Training for the RAF Junior and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers). In addition to trade-specific training, No1 SofTT also delivers training for a broad spectrum of underpinning generic skills such as basic engineering, aircraft cabling, electrical equipment, academic course elements and contextualised hangar and line training for all RAF AE trades.
- MTW concentrates on meeting the physical and military training requirements of trainees and military instructors/staff, as well as the welfare, pastoral and ethos ‘needs', of the trainees while at No1 SofTT.
- TDW is established to manage all aspects of curriculum development within the Defence Aeronautical Engineering Training Environment.
The decision to implement a discreet split in the responsibility for the management of ‘training delivery' (in ATW) and ‘trainee management' (in MTW) has stemmed from the combined needs to deliver multi-skilling in the on-aircraft engineering trades and in anticipation of the ‘House System' for Defence Training Establishments in the future.
