Battle of Britain Gala Dinner
The event held in the Cold War Exhibition of the RAF Museum Cosford on the 11th of September 2010 was a resounding success. Around 380 diners enjoyed a splendid evening of good food, fine wine and first class entertainment.
The guest speaker Wing Commander Andy Green, holder of the World Land Speed Record, paid tribute to ‘the Few’ in an inspirational address which paid homage to the achievements of the West Midlands as well as setting the scene for the next attempt on the Land Speed record in the Bloodhound Supersonic Car.
We were privileged to have 2 Battle of Britain pilots dine with us; Ken Wilkinson and Tony Pickering also did us the honour of signing many copies of the book ‘Spitfire’ won by people on the night.
We are indebted to our major sponsors, BAE Systems and TTC Group, and the many local businesses and individuals who supported us on the night and donated auction lots and prizes.
There were many special acts of generosity which contributed much to making the evening very special. Most importantly, the grand sum of £17,007.48p was raised for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. My thanks to everyone involved in taking part and raising this magnificent sum.
